Risk factors for your Breast cancer

Everyone knows breast cancer is one of the deadly causes among women. The disease is not only primarily occurs in women but also occasionlly in men. But not many people know about the risk factors. So I decided to start my blog with it.

You may be more likely to develp breast cancer if you have any of these risk factors:
  • Family history of the disease (meaning a mother, grandmother or sister had breast cancer before menopause)
  • Menstrual period starting by age 11
  • Older than 30 at time of first child's birth
  • Consuming more than one alcoholic beverage a day
  • Overweight by more than 20 pounds
  • Age is the most importan risk factor of all, says Charles E. Geyer Jr., M.D. As you age, be sure to continue with regular screenings.

An increased risk of stomach cancer is associated with diets containing large amounts of smoked foods, salted fish and meat, and pickled vegetables. Nitrates and nitrites are substances commonly found in cured meats, some drinking water, and certain vegetables. They can be converted by certain bacteria, such as H pylori, into compounds that have been found to cause stomach cancer in animals. On the other hand, eating whole grain products and fresh fruits and vegetables that contain vitamins A and C appears to lower the risk of stomach cancer.

Common Breast Cancer Myths

The first myth pertaining to this disease is that it only affects women.

Second myth that is associated with this disease is that if one has found a lump during an examination, it is cancer.

Third is that it is solely hereditary

The next myth associated with breast cancer is downright ridiculous. Would you believe, that in this day and age, some individuals still think that breast cancer is contagious?

Conversely, some individuals foolishly believe that breast size determines whether or not one gets cancer.

Finally, another myth that is associated with this disease is that it only affects older people. This is not so. Although the chance of getting breast cancer increases with age, women as young as 18 have been diagnosed with the disease.
